Ludvig Volebeda (Netherlands), Grand Prix BIB 2017 holder
(* Oosterhout, 1990)
Dutch illustrator Ludwig Volbeda mainly works on children’s books. In 2016 he illustrated an absurdist war story written by Benny Lindelauf: How Tortot lost his fish heart. It was awarded with a Gouden Lijst, and nominated for the Boekenpauw bookprize and the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs.
Together with Dutch writer Ted van Lieshout he produces the art prints book The Birds, a poetic story about two statues who can’t reach each other. The book received the Grand Prix Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava.
Ludwig studied illustration at the AKV Sint Joost in Breda, The Netherlands. He lives and works in his home studio in Amsterdam. He likes to fill his walls and notebooks with minuscule notes, drawings, sketches and cartoons. Within his autonomous work he shows a partiality for displaced people in vast landscapes, machines, new neighborhoods and islands.
