March 25th and 26th, 2015 - THE ANIMATION EXPRESS, being a part of the Children's Book Day event, stopped in Banská Bystrica so that children were introduced to two significant Slovak animation leaders.
The International Festival of Animated Films for Children - the Biennial of Animation Bratislava – brought
to Banská Bystrica not only screenings of outstanding animated films, but also a discussion with the legendary
filmmaker, director, animator and professor at the Animation Department of the Film and Television Faculty
of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava František Jurišič as well as animation workshops.
The pupils from elementary schools watched two collections of animated films, including popular bedtime
stories (Večerníček) by František Jurišič that were awarded at numerous international festivals.
They watched also films for children made by Vanda Raýmanová, designer, director and lecturer at the
Animation Department of the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava,
which were awarded prizes at the BAB Festival. The children reacted spontaneously to situations in the
screened films, asked inquisitive questions regarding filmmaking and production and were also interested
in the technology of puppet and paper animation. This proved, that the positive effect of bedtime stories
(Večerníček) keeps lasting and its ethical and aesthetic values are timeless as well.
