We regret to announce that JUDr. Dušan Roll, the founder and a long-time General Commissioner of the Bratislava Biennial of Illustration (BIB), passed away on July 29, 2021.
Dušan Roll was born on January 28, 1928 in Martin (Slovakia) where he graduated from the local grammar school. After studying at the Faculty of Law and the University of Civil Engineering in Bratislava, he worked at the Osveta publishing house and later at the Mladé letá publishing house. He was the director of the Slovak Film Production.
Dušan Roll was one of the leading figures of Slovak cultural life. In 1965 he was one of the co-founders of the Bratislava Biennial of Illustration (BIB). He had served as the BIB's General Commissioner and the Chairman of BIB International Committee for a long period until 2006 to continue serving as Honorary Chairman of the BIB International Committee. He was the Vice President and the President of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), the President of the Hans Christian Andersen Prize International Jury as well as a member of the UNICEF Art Commission in New York and several other international juries within UNESCO. He founded the international film festival Agrofilm Nitra and was a jury member of several international film festivals.
